Community Montessori School (CMS) has served the Lexington, Kentucky community since 1970. CMS is a non-sectarian school and welcomes children of every race, color, religion, ethnicity and national origin. The school maintains the highest standards of academic excellence and dedication to the individual needs of the children. The principles of Dr. Maria Montessori provide the framework for program development in all areas. The school holds the total development of the child as our foremost consideration.
CMS is approved (and certified as a non-public school) by the Kentucky Department of Education as well as the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and is staffed by fully trained and AMI accredited Montessori teachers. We accept students pre-school through sixth grade. Montessori Middle School of Kentucky (MMSK), on another campus, provides a Montessori experience for the adolescent - 7th and 8th graders.
The Montessori Director or Directress of the Primary and Junior levels is trained at an Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) training center. This year of training gives them the necessary direction to accommodate the individual needs of the children, the skills to manage a multi-level age group within the classroom environment, and the knowledge of the developmental stages and sensitive periods of growth of the students. The Montessori materials and teacher training are the essential keys to the success of the Montessori classroom.
Visitors are welcome at CMS and MMSK by contacting the office to arrange for an appointment.
